Parasite Architecture Densification Berlin

Just as a parasite or insect clings to its host and drains its energy, parasite architecture is often a tiny addition, structure or appendage that docks onto an existing building.
Often temporary and rarely stationary, it is a foreign body that stands out extremely from the host building, both visually and structurally.

THE VISION

This building situation is located in Kreuzberg not far from the Landwehrkanal at Johanniterstraße 12.
A 1950s building on the corner stands out from the Wilhelminian buildings in the area due to its much smaller dimensions. Four platforms are formed that seem to float above the corner building and take up the shape of the adjacent fire walls. Gardens, stairs and apartments are spread across the levels and form a new, small urban landscape above the roofs.
